so today I was having a bad day, mental health-wise, but was kind of holding it together.
then I went to the student common room to wait for a meeting and one of the 4th years mentioned she’d seen a teenage girl in the paediatric clinic who was suicidal.
another student quizzed her about the patient, and basically said this young woman was a “good” psych patient because she had insight and wanted to change, and was generally dismissive of mental health in general.
I became pretty enraged & made sarcastic remarks about her glowing with overwhelming empathy, and the first student said “well they’re pretty hard to deal with”, and I threw back “yeah so is being super depressed” then walked out so I could go cry in the toilets.
TL;DR - the future of medicine is a bunch of immature jerks who lack empathy
